The simple things in life that carry an immeasurable amount of value and quality within themselves have always amazed me. For example, I’m finding it harder and harder to ignore the simple value that dwells inside of a single light-emitting diode (led).

You may not be familiar with what a single led light is or what it looks like. Nowadays, it seems as if led lights are used in massive groups for aviation, automobile lighting and high definition televisions. However, I’m focusing on the power behind a single led light before it is included in such a large group.

Even though it seems as if led lights are a somewhat new invention that is just being applied and used on a public scale, the truth is that they have been in existence for over 80 years. The first led light was created by Oleg Vladimirovich Losev in 1927. Even though it was publicized in various scientific journals, people could not find any real value or use for this invention until several decades later.

The infrared led light was patented by two experimenters working for Texas Instruments in 1961 and the first visible-spectrum red led was created a year later in 1962. From that point forward, different modifications and new colors to this simple invention were completed by a variety of different people as this small beam of light gradually evolved into the cutting edge technology that is practically being applied in so many different ways today.

Studies have proven that a single led light can live anywhere between 25,000 to 100,000 hours based on the levels of heat and other factors surrounding them. However, just to know that such a small beam of light has the potential of living anywhere between 3 to 12 years proves the power of advancing technology, even in the most simples of forms, in today’s society.

I have a problem with speeding fines. My problem is that I cannot see who is harmed, so where is the crime? This is like the dept of pre-crime in that movie, “Minority report”. If you speed, you are more likely to cause an accident, so we are going to fine you now, so you do not cause an accident. It makes no sense. If we follow that same logic then everyone with a gun should be charged with murder. If you have a gun you are more likely to kill someone else, so let’s just charge you with murder right now and save that other person’s life!

To top it all off, the speeding fine business in Joburg has now been given to a “for profit” company called AARTO, that is listed on CIPRO. A private organization has been tasked with collecting revenue for a government institution. I am sorry but in my world, that does not work! So I have decided to ask them a few questions. Despite this, they want to persist in sending me fines. Well, we’ll see who has more stamina:)

Dear AARTO,

RE: Infringement notices 02-4024-009871802-9 & 02-4024-010300128-7

This is a second open letter from me, Douglas, of the family Hoseck, a natural human being, to AARTO, a company. AARTO will be supplied a printed copy. A digital copy will be made available to all on my blog, www.hoseck.com.

This is an affidavit of my truth.

i) In response to my last correspondence with AARTO, regarding infringement notice 02-4024-009871802-9, I received a response from AARTO to say I do not have to pay AARTO. Thanks for that, BUT AARTO failed to answer my questions.

ii) Fortunately, in the interim, AARTO sent me another infringement notice, so I get to ask the questions again. Please note though, this is getting a little irritating. So this time, I either want a response to my questions OR I want AARTO to stop sending me these notices immeditately.

iii) My feeling is that if AARTO does not want to answer my questions it can only be because AARTO is doing something illegal & knows it. If it is illegal & AARTO persists in sending these notices, I will have no recourse but to start legal proceedings against AARTO for harrassment.

iii) Here are my questions regarding infringement notice no. 02-4024-010300128-7:

1.) According to this ‘notice’, the “issuing authority” is the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department. Yet you are requesting payment be made into the bank account of AARTO, a ‘for profit’ company listed on CIPRO, a company that is NOT the JMPD. Please explain to me why I must pay AARTO, if this notice is from the JMPD? If, in fact, this notice is from the JMPD, then AARTO is a 3rd party interloper with no standing in this matter. Please explain?

2.) According to the Bills of Exchange act 34 of 1964, a bill demanding payment of any kind needs to be signed by a representative of the company. There is no signature on this ‘notice’, so please explain how this constitutes a legal bill?

3.) According to the Bills of Exchange act 34 of 1964, before any company (like AARTO) can claim money from a natural person, like me, there has to be a signed agreement between the two parties, which clearly defines the terms of the contract between the parties. I cannot recall signing an agreement with AARTO, please would you be kind enough to supply me with a copy of the signed agreement between us.

iv) Please note that you have thirty (30) days to respond to me, from 29 February, 2012, with full and complete answers to my 3 questions (in plain English). Failure to respond within the stipulated time frame and/or failure to respond to my questions will be accepted as an admission of guilt, as an admission that AARTO’s actions are illegal.

v) Until my questions are clearly and completely answered, any further infringement notices that AARTO sends to me will be considered harassment.

AARTO, on their website, paints a pretty picture of themselves as defenders of road safety. As guardians of all because they punish social offenders by taking points off their licenses. What a load of crap! AARTO is NOT some road safety, points demerit system. Don’t believe that rubbish. Go look on CIPRO’s website, you’ll find AARTO listed as a ‘for profit’ company. And that is really what AARTO is about, making money. It is a revenue sucking scheme that most people are buying into. Stop looking at the PR crap, go look at CIPRO’s website. AARTO’s listing on CIPRO makes their position in the whole scheme of things very, very clear. Profit mongers, nothing more, nothing less!

If what AARTO is doing is legal, why do you think they offer a 50% discount if you pay quickly? Have you ever heard a judge giving a criminal a 50% reduction in sentence if he goes to jail quickly? No! The simple truth is they want you to simply shut-up and pay, without questioning it! Don’t play their game, question them. Drill them with questions. If we all work together on this we can and will bring this scam down and expose the profiteering scum suckers for what they are at the same time.

I have a credit card from Standard bank and I wanted to know where they got the money to loan me on that credit card. Since I am paying it back with HUGE amounts of interest, I think I have the right to know. Furthermore, you cannot loan something you don’t have. If I don’t have a car, I cannot lend you a car. So if Standard bank loaned me money, they must have had the money to loan me in the first place, right? That’s what I thought but when I asked Standard bank card services this question, they passed the buck.

In classic corporate style, they passed the buck. Standard bank is like every other corporation on the planet, no-one is responsible, they simply pass you on to someone else in the organization when you stump them.

I don’t understand why my simple questions were not answered and I am not going to leave it here. I am going to scratch further and will post the results, but I wanted to post something now about how corporations, and in particular, Standard bank, pass the buck when you confront them. This is what makes it almost impossible for normal people, like me, to crack the shield of mis-information their PR dept pumps out.

Many, many MLM type schemes have popped up over the years. Some more successful than others. And believe it or not, there are some people who have made a fortune out of them, a serious fortune! Usually, it is those who got in early. The big question on everyone’s lips at the moment is where does Wazzub fit in? Is Wazzub scam or opportunity? Is Wazzub even an MLM scheme? And if not, wazz eggzackly are they planning? I’ll break it down some more…

Is Wazzub an MLM scheme?

Well, yes and no, is the short answer. Without a track record, it is impossible to say for sure where they fit in.

“Yes”, they are MLM in terms of the fact that you are supposed to try to generate a downline (get your friends to join) after you join. That’s a fairly standard MLM practice, hence the name “multi-level”… But also “no”, because there is supposedly no “marketing” involved. You don’t have to buy anything, nor do you have to sell anything, or so they claim. They don’t ask for a registration fee, nor do they try to get you to buy something after registering. But again, no track record to judge on, so it’s hard to say for sure!

So what is Wazzub? Is Wazzub scam or opportunity?

According to their website, which is still in a “pre-launch” phase, after they launch, you simply have to set their website as your default homepage to start making money (assuming you have enough people in your downline by then). My guess is that they will then sell advertising on that page, advertising that should see huge amounts of impressions if they really have the number of signups they profess to have, & then they share that money with the people actually using their homepage. Sound reasonable, sounds possible, but will it work in the long run? Will they actually pay any money out? And if so, will it be as much as they make out it is likely to be? That I can’t answer, they have zero track record to refer to:) So you have to take ALL their claims with a pinch of salt!

But, you also have to ask yourself if there is some other, more evil purpose behind it. I have done some looking around and found some interesting opinions. One lady, on her blog, believes that it is simply an email harvesting scheme. And she might be right. Just in case she is right & just in case you do decide to sign-up for Wazzub, I would recommend creating a special email address for this one. You can open a new Gmail or Yahoo email address, or even just create a nickname on an existing account you have. AND only use it for registering on Wazzup. That way, if it starts getting spammed, you know exactly who is responsible & that Wazzub is a scam. And you can simply delete the address at that point in time, no harm done to your regular email address.

Another guy seems to think that it is only a matter of time before they start trying to sell you stuff or get you to sell stuff. He reckons only a fool believes they can make money for doing nothing. And he too, might be right (& he may be wrong too). There’s no way to tell until their launch date of 9 April, 2012. But again, as soon as they try any marketing BS, you can simply delete your account (your one with them, and the associated email address you created before registering).

One thing is for sure, by 10 April, 2012, there are going to be a whole load of new posts on the net about Wazzub, one way or the other. “I told you so” kind of posts:). I honestly cannot say whether or not Wazzub is a scam, nor can anyone else, simply because Wazzub has zero track record. You will have to decide for yourself, is Wazzub scam or opportunity?

Should you join Wazzub or not?

I can’t tell you what to do, you must decide for yourself.

One thing is for sure, the people who have made money out of MLM schemes are the ones who got in early, and right now, it is still early days for Wazzub. Just bear in mind my recommendation of a “special” email address for this registration if you decide to go ahead.

And right now, it is free. There is no entry fee & you don’t have to sell or buy anything after registration.

I suggest you do some internet searches like Wazzup scam and GIT International scam (GIT International is the ‘company’). And I suggest you decide for yourself if you are willing to take the risk or not! One person commented that like the lottery, you have to be in it to win it. But this is NOT a lottery, this is potential identity theft. So it is not like a lottery at all! Just remember to approach with caution & take my advice about a special email address before registering (if you decide to). But I also believe that you won’t get anywhere living a life without any risk.  I say access the potential risk carefully and take precautions. I mean, who doesn’t wear a condom until they know more about their partner’s sexual history nowadays? That’s probably a better analogy than the lottery one. This is much like getting sexually involved with a partner you do not know (except I doubt this one is going to give you some dread disease).

I love new technology and am always scouring the net for new ideas. I recently came across this one which I think is just absolutely awesome. They are calling it the “Sunrise thermal airship” & (unfortunately) it is still only an idea. I can’t wait for this one to go commercial, I know I would be likely to do anything to get my hands on one.

In short, this is a simple airship that uses solar/thermal power for both lift & thrust. It is environmentally friendly ‘cos it does not generate any pollution & it is powered by the sun. The other great thing about it is that it would be really quiet. This means it would be awesome for game viewing, photography and recreation.

I think this is simply a brilliant idea. We need more ideas like this that will help us to stop being reliant on fossil fuels. Where do I sign up?

For some time now i have had my reservations about the legality of speeding fines here in Joburg, where I live. I received another one in the post the other day & it prompted me to take this a little further. But first let me tell you about the red flags & then I’ll tell you exactly what I am doing.

Big red flags

The biggest red flag is the so-called special discount if you make payment before a certain date. To me that screams “don’t question what we’re doing, simply do what we’re telling you to do”. But if you’re like me & you’ve never been good at being told what to do, it is simply a big red flag. It says to me that this is only about revenue generation

The other issue I have is the manner in which these so-called offences are recorded. For the most part these offences are recorded by people using speed reading cameras. BUT these people sit behind bushes & sundry similarly hidden spots along the road. Or they leave obscured cameras to do the work. You think there’s nothing wrong with that? Ok, consider this, if you went past a big sign that said “slow down to under the speed limit or the camera at the back of this sign is going to take a picture of your car & we will send you a speeding fine”, would you slow down to the limit or not?The stated goal of these speeding fines is to reduce the speed of motorists & hopefully the amount of accidents. So why hide the camera? Because the stated goal is not accurate, the real goal is revenue generation!

You think I am full of shit? Despite repeated calls from various civil rights groups, the JMPD & AARTO have refused to tell us how much money they are making. But from the little hints they have dropped we have some idea. Here is some info copied from this article:

• Director Gerneke goes on to say that the JMPD’s postage costs amount to R10 million a month.
• Well, at R18 per infringement notice (quoted to us by him) that equates to well over half a million individual fines per month, or 555,556 to be precise. And that is just for the fines issued by post, not those issued by traffic officers.
• Taking the calculation of the JMPD’s portion of the fine, which is the full portion of the discounted amount, and applying an average of the five fine amounts (already “discounted”), which works out to R437.50, this equates to a stunning R243, 055, 556  ornearly a quarter of a billion Rands per month.
• Even if only the lowest amount payable (R125 after “discount”) were to apply, this equates to R138, 888, 889 per month which, by way of example represents 86% of Cape Town’s ANNUAL traffic fine revenue in just one month.
• The JMPD has previously boasted a “compliance rate” of somewhere in the order of 50%-60% – largely thanks to their highly effective and intimidatory road block methodology where motorists are detained, mostly illegally and forced to pay their fines at the roadside under threat of arrest. This methodology has many Johannesburg motorists so terrified that they regularly ask us what will happen to them in a roadblock if they have outstanding AARTO fines.
• The AARTO Act has mechanisms in it to increase compliance, not decrease it and these mechanisms should be extremely effective, BUT they need to be applied correctly and therein lays the problem.
• If the collection or compliance rate has dropped by the claimed 67%, then this would mean that the JMPD is now only collecting 21.5% of all of the fines it issues. This is a little difficult to believe, but at the risk of calling them outright liars, this equates to somewhere in the order of R 29,861,111 per month and that represents a profit of nearly R20 million a month or R240 million a year of realised income, but before paying their contractors.
• This figure is of course grossly deflated but there will be no transparency emanating from the JMPD or the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality on this matter and only an independent audit will reveal all of the facts.
• If this were true and the alleged R27.50 per infringement notice issued “processing fee” were paid to “contractors”, then R15, 277, 778 would have to be paid to the “contractors” monthly because they are allegedly paid for all fines issued, not all fines paid.
• That would leave the JMPD with a mere R14.7 million a month to pay over to council. Is it any wonder that they are griping? Their contractors make way more than the council does under their claimed statistics!
• As was said by Mark Twain – “There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damned lies and statistics.”
• With respect to Director Gerneke’s unilateral decision to cease using the legislated means of service of AARTO infringement notices, this is a clear and flagrant violation of legislation and legally invalidates every single notice that was sent out via standard surface mail.

So what have I decided to do?

I have sent AARTO a letter, asking for some clarification before I pay the last fine they sent me. Here is a copy of the letter I have just put in the post to them:

The current banking system is inherently flawed and is heading for downfall, a downfall that is going to have a worldwide impact. The people of the world need to see & acknowledge the problems with the banking industry, and make moves now, to remedy the situation.

The first problem with the bank’s is their power to create money out of thin air.

Most people find this hard to believe because of the years of PR & marketing material that the banks have been pumping out. The key piece of legislation is the Bills of Exchange act. This act basically says that two people can write a value on a piece of paper, sign it and then the paper has that value. A practical example of this that most people would be familiar with is an “offer to purchase” that starts the mortgage process. You and the bank sign the offer to purchase. They then take that piece of paper and use a creative accounting entry to add it to their books as an asset. They then lend you the money against this asset. They do not have the money to lend you, you create the money when you sign that offer! This is how they create money out of thin air, a bit like the power of God!

The other major flaw in the system is that everything is interest based & they control the interest rate!

Any money that they lend out has to be paid back with interest. BUT the bank only creates the money they lend you, they do not create the money to cover the interest. Therefore the amount that has to be re-paid will always be greater than the amount of money in the system, and the difference between the two keeps growing. So where does the money for the interest come from? The awful truth is that it comes from the losers, the people who default and lose their house, car etc. The bank takes back those assets, which always have a greater value than the debt and convert it into money again. Which they then loan out again, at interest. And so on…

This is a cycle that is designed to keep people as slaves to the machine. We will pay most of what we earn to the banksters during our lifetime and the odds of ever getting ahead (generating an old age nest egg) are seriously stacked against us. We need to see this problem right now and start looking for/implimenting solutions.

One immediate solution that needs to come into effect is taking back the power to create money. In 1913, with the introduction of the reserve banking system, the banks took control of the power to create money. The people need to take back this power. Creation of currency should be a shared human right. We need to lobby goverment and law makers now to take this power away from the banks, and return it to it’s rightful owners, the people.

We also need to research and develop interest free solutions. If I borrow your car, I return your car. I cannot return more than your car! The same applies to money. If I borrow money, I should only have to return what I borrow, no more than that. We need to create financial vehicles that can do this, financial vehicles that will replace the current, corrupt banks. If we’re lucky, they’ll bankrupt the banks:)

Come on people, wake up. This is already a crisis situation.

Finally a voice of reason has join the US Presidential race. Congressman Dr Ron Paul is like a breath of fresh air in a storm of hot, stale rhetoric. Ron Paul is the first candidate in a long time who seems interested in winning the election for reasons other than to simply win. Who is he and why does he stand out for me, a South African? I am so glad you asked, allow me to expand.

Ron Paul plans to return America to the place it used to enjoy, as a world leader, instead of a world policeman! He plans to rock the boat on many different levels. Most of which I completely appreciate & believe the world needs.

End the Fed.

Ron Paul wants a full, complete & transparent audit of the Federal Reserve bank. He wants them to finally become accountable for their actions. Since 1913, the Fed has had the power to create money out of thin air, influence interest rates and generally control the US economy. The upshot of that is the the US dollar has devalued by 95% during their reign! Mr Paul plans to end that and return the power of the US economy back to the people of America.

Reduce the deficit.

Ron Paul has a real plan to drastically reduce the US deficit. He plans to reduce it by 1 Trillion (with a T) dollars in the first year. This in itself is a pretty radical idea and you probably think he plans to tax the people more to achieve this. If that’s what you think, you would be wrong. He is not going to raise taxes. In fact he plans to cut many of the taxes on the people that he considers unconstitutional, he even envisions a 0% tax rate in the future. Instead, Ron Paul plans to curb the excessive & reckless spending of Congress.

The reason I think he is totally serious about this is the fact that he has proposed to “take a salary of $39,336, approximately equal to the median personal income of the American worker.” Do you realize how long ago it was that a US President was paid $39,336? The fact that he plans to reduce the deficit by taking a pay cut should show you just how serious he is about reducing the deficit!

Here is a candidate who plans to lead by example, a candidate who has a real plan based on sound research. You can see his full proposal here. How many politicians understand the Occupy Wall Street movement? Well, Ron Paul certainly does!

Stopping the erosion of civil liberties.

Ron Paul was very outspoken about the “Patriot Act” & he plans to repeal it. He feels is is totally unconstitutional. Well done Mr. Paul, I completely agree with you. Hopefully you will include SOPA, should that draconian bit of legislation also get passed! He is proposing a non-interference policy which will allow the various states to determine their own best future. He plans to stop people having to be ogled or fondled for wanting to fly somewhere on an airplane! Thanks you Mr Ron Paul.

Military & wars

This is huge. Ron Paul is proposing a freeze on military spending. He feels that America is over-extended and he is RIGHT! With bases is some 135 countries around the world, the US is completely over-extended. He wants to bring the troops home. He feels that the resources would be better used by getting those troops to guard and monitor their own borders instead of the borders of countries that most of those troops don’t even understand! Never mind the cost of maintaining all those bases, there is the PR effect that those bases represent. Who made America the world police? By maintaining those bases, the US is providing the reason for even more people to take up arms against the US. How would Americans feel if China or Iran or Afganistan established a base on US soil?

Ron Paul is able to put himself in the shoes of people outside America and view America through their eyes. This makes him stand out as a free-thinking American and a revolutionary Presidential candidate!

End the fed

National Defense

* Make securing our borders the top national security priority.

* Guarantee our intelligence community’s efforts are directed toward legitimate threats and not spying on innocent Americans through unconstitutional power grabs like the Patriot Act.

* End the nation-building that is draining troop morale, increasing our debt, and sacrificing lives with no end in sight.

* Follow the Constitution by asking Congress to declare war before one is waged.

* Only send our military into conflict with a clear mission and all the tools they need to complete the job – and then bring them home.

While a Flat Tax or a Fair Tax would each be a better alternative to the income tax system, Congressman Paul believes we would have to guarantee the 16^th Amendment is repealed to avoid having both the income tax and one of these systems as an additional tax.

But there is a better way. Restraining federal spending by enforcing the Constitution’s strict limits on the federal government’s power would help result in a 0% income tax rate for Americans.

The answer to spending and debt is to return to a constitutionally limited government that protects liberty – not one that keeps robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Health

* Repeal ObamaCare and end its unconstitutional mandate that all Americans must carry only government-approved health insurance or answer to the IRS.

* Allow purchase of health insurance across state lines.

* Provide tax credits and deductions for all medical expenses.

* Exempt those with terminal illnesses from the employee portion of payroll taxes while they are suffering from such illnesses or are incurring significant medical costs associated with their conditions.

* Give a payroll deduction to any worker who is the primary caregiver for a spouse, parent, or child with a terminal illness.

* Stop the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from interfering with Americans’ knowledge of and access to dietary supplements and alternative treatments.

* Prevent federal bureaucrats from tracking every citizen’s medical history from cradle to grave by prohibiting the use of taxpayer funds for a national database of personal health information.

Energy

* Eliminate the ineffective EPA. Polluters should answer directly to property owners in court for the damages they create – not to Washington.

* Make tax credits available for the purchase and production of alternative fuel technologies.

Homeschooling

*  Help parents better educate their children by providing parents with a $5,000 per child tax credit for tutors, books, computers, and other K-12 related educational needs.

*  Ensure that the federal government treats high school diplomas earned through homeschooling the same as other high school diplomas.

Congressman Paul wants parents to have the freedom to choose the best educational options for their children, and his commitment to ensuring homeschooling remains a practical alternative for American families is unmatched by any other Presidential candidate.

As President, he will veto any legislation that encroaches on homeschooling parents’ rights.

Returning control of education to parents and teachers on the local level is the centerpiece of Ron Paul’s education agenda.

I saw the extensive local media coverage of the recent COP conference in Durban, South Africa. None of the news reports mentioned any of what you will see in the following video. The SA media are slaves to the government, all working in collusion to keep you poor and stupid! Wake up people.

Censorship is alive & well in South Africa. You ONLY get the official party line. You never hear voices of dissent, no matter how intelligent & well-founded they are. It would appear that our right to protest is ok, as long as we protest where no-one can hear us! Very Orwellian, with a piquant hint of Nat politics.

There’s nothing quite like an excellent example. The village of Wildpoldsried, in Germany, is just that; a great eco-example that all communities should be looking into. This village produces 321% EXTRA energy and makes money by selling it back to the national grid.

This is not a new concept but this village has had the foresight to get it right. They have windmills and solar panels (on private & public buildings) which provide for all their needs AND produce 321% more energy. The occupy movement is not about a list of demands, it’s about an open and transparent system. By the people, for the people.
